When it comes to apprenticeships and finding a job that fits, the Multicultural Apprenticeship and Skills Alliance (MASA) is leading the way.
Back in 2017, they kicked off as the ‘BAME Apprenticeship Alliance,’ but since then, they’ve gone through some serious changes to become even more inclusive.

MASA is all about shaking things up. They want to make apprenticeships accessible for everyone. Whether you’re from a minority background or not, their three pillars – Educate, Engage, and Advocacy & Policy – show their commitment to a more fair and inclusive apprenticeship system. MASA is not just about good intentions. They’re keeping score of the impact they’re making. Success isn’t just about applause; it’s about actions – actions that contribute to a more diverse and inclusive apprenticeship scene.

Background: Shaping Tomorrow’s Workforce, Championing Diversity

The Multicultural Apprenticeship Alliance (MASA) emerges as a transformative force in the apprenticeship landscape, dedicated to reshaping opportunities and fostering diversity and inclusion. Rooted in a threefold approach of education, engagement, and advocacy, MASA collaborates with employers, educational institutions, and communities to highlight the invaluable contributions of a multicultural workforce. Incubated by Pathway Group, MASA’s journey is marked by impactful projects, such as the Apprenticeship Diversity & Social Mobility Forum and collaborative efforts with brands like the Festival of Apprenticeships. With a rebranded Multicultural Apprenticeships Awards, MAA envisions a future where inclusivity is not just a goal but an integral part of the apprenticeship narrative, building a pathway for underrepresented talent to thrive.

Safaraz Ali FIEP: Illuminating Futures and Elevating Apprenticeships for All

Let me share a tale about a remarkable individual, Safaraz Ali, who isn’t just a name but a visionary force championing apprenticeships, particularly within ethnic minority communities. It all unfolded on a Thursday, the 5th of October 2023, a date etched not as just another day but as the 7th anniversary of the Multicultural Apprenticeship Awards.

In a world witnessing the evolving dynamics of qualifications and careers, Safaraz identified a unique opportunity. His vision went beyond the ordinary, seeking to uplift and champion apprenticeships where they were often overlooked. The event wasn’t merely a celebration of apprentices’ brilliance; it was a testament to Safaraz’s foresight in recognising and nurturing untapped potential.

Safaraz’s impact extends far beyond awards. With over two decades of transformative leadership, he founded the Pathway Group and became a powerful voice through initiatives like the “Canny Bites – Business Book Series” and the ‘Canny Conversations’ podcast. His mission is crystal clear: empower communities, challenge perceptions, and reshape the apprenticeship landscape.

Beyond award ceremonies, the impact of Safaraz’s work resonates in tangible change, acknowledged in features by The Times and The Sunday Times. As we reflect on the event, let’s take a moment to appreciate Safaraz Ali, not just for the evening but for his visionary journey that’s redefining futures. His dedication to making apprenticeships a celebrated path, especially for ethnic minority communities, is truly commendable.

A Week of Connection and Inspiration with Multicultural Apprenticeship and Skills Alliance

Just reminiscing about the amazing vibes from last week’s two-day event at the University College Birmingham with our Multicultural Apprenticeship and Skills Alliance. It was more than just discussions and seminars; it was a celebration of narratives, aspirations, and the power of social mobility.

Guess what? Yours truly got the chance to share some personal stories and dreams. It was an absolute honour to encourage conversations and dialogue. I even threw together some slides to tell a story and kickstart discussions – check them out, they’re right here for you.

But you know what really made my days? It was hearing the shared experiences of fellow Patrons and some key individuals who graced us with their invaluable perspectives. Their stories added layers of depth to our discussions, making it a real highlight for me.

And here’s the kicker – this was just the beginning. The Multicultural Apprenticeship and Skills Alliance has officially kicked off a promising partnership with the University College Birmingham. Exciting times ahead!

Big thanks to everyone who made these days memorable and to University College Birmingham for being such fantastic hosts. Looking forward to more moments like these!
