The Business Case: Why Nationwide Care Pharmacy is the Right Partner for Care Providers:
Client: Midlands Nursing Home (80+ residents)
Backstory: A Midlands-based nursing home with 80+ residents was struggling with frequent medication delivery delays from their national pharmacy provider. These delays led to missed medication rounds, putting patient safety at risk. Additionally, incorrect dosage packaging resulted in high medication errors, increasing the workload for care staff and creating compliance concerns. To make matters worse, the home lacked direct contact with a pharmacist, meaning that urgent medication issues often took days to resolve, leaving both staff and residents vulnerable.
Nationwide Care Pharmacy stepped in to provide a tailored medication management solution, ensuring seamless service and enhanced patient safety. Daily scheduled deliveries were implemented, guaranteeing 100% medication availability and eliminating missed rounds. To address errors, bespoke medication packaging was introduced, offering safer, error-free dosing customised to residents’ needs. Additionally, the home was assigned a dedicated pharmacist, providing immediate support and compliance guidance, significantly reducing response times for urgent medication issues.
The impact was immediate and measurable. Medication errors dropped to a nil%, dramatically improving patient safety and reducing compliance risks. Staff saved over 10 hours per week on administrative tasks, allowing them to focus more on resident care. Additionally, with faster issue resolution and a streamlined process, staff satisfaction increased by 45%, leading to a more efficient and stress-free working environment.
Nationwide Care Pharmacy has rapidly expanded, now handling near 30,000 prescriptions per month, a testament to our commitment to service excellence, operational efficiency, and market adaptability. Our growth has been fuelled by key industry shifts a few years ago, including the introduction of chargeable delivery services by major pharmacy chains such as Boots, Lloyds, and Wells, which imposed an annual fee for home medication deliveries.
This change led many patients to seek alternative providers, with independent pharmacies—like Nationwide Care Pharmacy—offering free delivery and a more personalised service. As a result, we captured a significant portion of this market, reinforcing our position as a trusted, customer-focused pharmacy provider. Our ability to scale while maintaining high standards of care, seamless logistics, and dedicated customer support has made us a leading choice for care homes, nursing

Chris W: Safaraz, you’ve built several successful ventures in skills, employability, and social care. What inspired you to invest and be part of a distance selling pharmacy and establishing Nationwide Care Pharmacy?
Safaraz Ali:
The idea came from my now business partner Shoaib Qurban who recognised a huge gap in pharmacy services for care providers. The care sector is under immense pressure, and managing medication is a critical, yet often overlooked, challenge. Most pharmacies focus purely on dispensing, but care homes, nursing homes, and domiciliary providers need much more than that.
For them, pharmacy is not just about prescriptions—it’s about logistics, efficiency, and customer service. Timely medication delivery, compliance support, and a human touch make all the difference in how care services operate.
At Nationwide Care Pharmacy, we’ve built a model that combines pharmaceutical expertise with high-quality logistics and customer service—because in this industry, every minute and every detail matter.
Chris W: Logistics is a big factor in pharmacy operations. What makes Nationwide Care Pharmacy different?
Safaraz Ali: Logistics is the backbone of what we do. Medication is time-sensitive, and care homes cannot afford delays or errors. We manage this with a dedicated in-house delivery team instead of relying on third-party couriers.
Daily and scheduled deliveries ensure that care providers always have the medication they need – we have deliveries 7 days a week and are open every day!
Real-time tracking and responsive support mean that any issue—whether it’s an urgent request or an unforeseen delay—is handled swiftly.
We also customise our delivery schedules to fit the unique needs of each care provider. Some require daily drops, while others work on a weekly rotation. Our approach is flexible, efficient, and designed around the care sector’s needs.
Chris W: Customer service is a key differentiator. How do you ensure high-quality service for your customers?
Safaraz Ali: Customer service is at the heart of everything we do. Unlike many pharmacies where communication is slow and bureaucratic, we offer a high-touch, personalised approach.
Dedicated account managers – Every customer base – care home providers and anyone of some size has a direct contact person, rather than a call centre or generic email address.
On-site support and consultations – We don’t just send medication; we actively work with care teams to optimise processes, train staff, and troubleshoot issues.
Fast response times – Our team is always available to answer queries, resolve medication concerns, and ensure seamless service.
The goal is to be an extension of a care provider’s team, not just a supplier.
Chris W: The pharmacy business is highly regulated, and market entry is challenging. What’s your perspective on the business side of pharmacy?
Safaraz Ali: Pharmacy is a highly resilient industry. Over 90% of revenue comes from the NHS, meaning it’s stable, predictable, and less vulnerable to economic downturns. However, the barriers to entry are high.
Opening a new pharmacy requires NHS contracts, regulatory approvals, and compliance with strict guidelines.
Existing pharmacies hold significant strategic value because they come with built-in NHS funding.
For Nationwide Care Pharmacy, this isn’t just a business—it’s a long-term, high-impact venture that supports the care sector while ensuring financial sustainability.
Chris W: What’s next for Nationwide Care Pharmacy?
Safaraz Ali: Organic Expansion for now and then moving on to acquisitions if they fir. Focus on innovation and driving technology rated changes. We’re growing our reach across the Midlands, North West, and East regions, but beyond that, we’re exploring digital solutions to improve medication management.
Some key focus areas include:
Technology Integration – Developing systems that allow care homes to track medication deliveries in real time and automate reordering.
Training and Education – Equipping care home staff with the knowledge to improve medication safety and compliance.
Expanding Logistics Capabilities – Investing in a more robust, scalable delivery network to enhance service reliability.
Our goal is simple: to be the one of the most trusted and efficient pharmacy partner for the care sector based in the West Midlands.
Chris W: Finally, for care providers who want to work with Nationwide Care Pharmacy, how can they get started?
Safaraz Ali: We keep it simple—just reach out directly to Shoaib Qurban on 0121 271 0201and he will walk through your needs and provide a bespoke solution that works.
