Interested in established commercial cleaning, industrial cleaning and facilities services businesses – and experienced professionals who could help lead them.
Essential services, dependable businesses
They may not always attract the headlines.
They may not be fashionable.
And they are sometimes described as boring businesses.
But without them, workplaces, buildings, factories, warehouses and essential services would struggle to operate.
Commercial cleaning.
Industrial cleaning.
Building maintenance.
Specialist facilities services.
Also, these are businesses built on hard work, reliable delivery, good people and long-term customer relationships.
I am interested in acquiring and developing established businesses in this sector – and in finding the right experienced professionals to help lead them.
I am Safaraz Ali MBE, a social impact entrepreneur, private business investor and business buyer. In addition, I have had previous exposure to the cleaning and facilities services market, and I am interested in re-entering the sector.
This is not simply about buying a company. It is about bringing together an established business, the right people and the opportunity to build something stronger.
I invest in businesses, but I back people.
The businesses that interest me
My interests include:
I am particularly interested in businesses serving commercial, industrial, institutional and public-sector customers. This may include contracts with offices, industrial premises, warehouses, schools, healthcare providers, property managers, housing organisations and other employers.
My preference is for established B2B service businesses with existing customers, a capable workforce and a track record of delivery. I would also consider businesses providing complementary services that could sit alongside cleaning and facilities operations.
Why this sector interests me
There is something attractive about a business that solves a practical problem every day.
Similarly, a customer needs a building cleaned.
A factory needs specialist work carried out safely.
A school needs a reliable cleaning team.
Equally, a commercial property needs ongoing maintenance.
A business needs someone to turn up, deliver the service and take responsibility.
When these services are done well, they can become an important part of a customer’s operations.
Indeed, the opportunity is not necessarily about creating something new. It may be about taking an established business and helping it become better organised, more resilient and more capable of growing.
These businesses may be called boring. Overall, I see essential services, real customers and the potential to build lasting value.
I have been around this market before
I have had previous exposure to the cleaning and facilities services sector. That experience has left me with an interest in returning to the market.
Additionally, I recognise that these are operational businesses. They depend on people, service standards, supervision, customer relationships, health and safety, contract delivery, and the ability to manage the details consistently.
I am not looking to pretend that investment alone makes a cleaning or facilities business successful. Moreover, the right operational leadership matters enormously.
That is why I am interested in speaking not only with business owners but also with experienced people who understand how this industry works.
Are you an experienced facilities professional?
This is one of the most important parts of my interest in the sector. Furthermore, perhaps you are an experienced:
You may have spent years working for a larger cleaning or facilities company. You understand contract mobilisation, workforce management, recruitment and retention, customer service, pricing, compliance, service delivery, and the challenges of managing multiple sites and teams.
Likewise, perhaps you have always wanted to run your own business. Perhaps you are ready to lead an established company. Or perhaps you have the operational expertise but would value working with an investment partner.
Also, I am interested in meeting facilities professionals who may want to work with me to acquire, run and grow an established business. That could involve an operating partnership, management-led acquisition, joint venture or another suitable arrangement. The right structure would depend on the people and the opportunity.
If you know this industry and believe you could lead its next chapter, let’s talk.
Have you built a cleaning or facilities business?
In addition, many businesses in this sector have been built over years of hard work. Often the founder started with a small number of customers, won more contracts, recruited staff, developed supervisors, built relationships, and created a business that customers depend on.
But perhaps you are now considering retirement. Similarly, perhaps the business has reached a stage where it needs a stronger management structure. Perhaps there is an opportunity to grow, but you no longer want to carry all the responsibility. Or perhaps you simply want to explore what the future could look like.
Equally, I am interested in discussing established businesses where there is a sound foundation and a sensible opportunity for continuity and development.
The aim would be to understand what you have built, protect the important customer and workforce relationships, and explore how the business could move forward.
A good business deserves a thoughtful next chapter.
The opportunity is in the operations
Cleaning and facilities businesses are often judged on whether they deliver what they promise. That means good operational management is central to success. Potential areas for improvement may include:
Indeed, delivering consistently against agreed specifications, service levels and customer expectations.
Improving recruitment, training, supervision, retention and deployment.
Understanding the real cost of labour, materials, equipment, travel and contract delivery.
Overall, building relationships and responding effectively when customers need support.
Improving scheduling, timesheets, quality checks, reporting and communication.
Maintaining appropriate training, risk assessments, safe working practices and regulatory standards.
Additionally, winning suitable contracts, developing existing customer relationships and identifying complementary services.
Creating clear management responsibilities so the business does not depend entirely on the owner.
I am interested in businesses where good people and better systems can make a meaningful difference. Moreover, not growth at any cost – profitable growth, reliable service and a business that customers and employees can have confidence in.
From one good business to something stronger
There may be opportunities to develop a cleaning or facilities business through:
However, the starting point should always be a business that works: good customer relationships, a reliable workforce, real service capability, and an understanding of what makes the business profitable.
Furthermore, I would rather build on a sound foundation than pursue growth without the systems and people to support it.
Let's talk about cleaning, facilities and what comes next
If you own an established commercial cleaning, industrial cleaning or facilities services business, I would welcome a discussion about succession, acquisition or future growth.
If you are an experienced cleaning or facilities professional, I would be interested in exploring whether we could work together to acquire, operate and develop a business in the sector.
My geographical preference is Birmingham, the West Midlands and the wider Midlands, although suitable opportunities elsewhere in England may also be considered.
I have had exposure to this market before. I would like to re-enter it. And I believe the right people will make the difference.
